Malerio Blanco is a heavy-duty timber suited to the toughest jobs — heavy bridges, railroad ties, house posts, heavy carpentry, industrial paving, and freshwater hydraulic works. Heartwood runs a vermilion to deep reddish-brown, sometimes streaked with pink, making up roughly two-thirds of the trunk before an abrupt shift to a near-white or light brown sapwood band. The grain is medium-textured, straight or interlocked. It's genuinely demanding to work — hard enough to dull tools quickly, and while it takes nails and screws well with pre-drilling, it's best suited for indoor bonding applications only. What it lacks in easy workability, it makes up for in staying power: highly resistant to fungi and dry-wood borers, and moderately resistant to termites.

- Has a rather high dulling effect and is difficult to work with hand tools. Pre-drilling is recommended before nailing and screwing; bonding properties are good, but pre-drilling is required. Generally recommended for indoor use only.
