Amapola is a lightweight, soft-textured hardwood milled from Pseudobombax ellipticum, native to Mesoamerica. Its even grain and forgiving density have made it a longstanding choice for indigenous canoe builders, who value how readily it can be hollowed and shaped by hand. That same workability carries over to veneer production, where Amapola's pale, glossy sapwood — deepening to a grayish-brown tone with a faint reddish vein pattern — yields a distinctive, natural face for finished panels.
